3D Printing
If you are new to 3D printing or are simply interested in the nitty-gritty intricacies of the processes please read our Design for Additive Manufacturing page before you submit a print. Our technicians will always print your part in the most efficient way that they can. If you are looking for specific properties, or your parts have advanced geometries, feel free to come in and talk to us about what we can do to help. We are always up to a challenge and seek to be as helpful as possible.
How to Design Your Part for 3D Printing
Please refer to our Guidelines for 3D Printing sheet for details on how to print for 3D printing.
How to Submit Your Part for the RPL
- Export your part as an .STL file.
- If you have multiple parts, please separate each part into separate .STL files.
- Submit your part to our 3D printing form.
- Upload your file and fill out all of your details for printing. Ensure your part dimensions are consistent with your CAD.
- For more information on our printer sizes and materials, visit our Printers page.
- If you have multiple unique parts, please submit the form separately for each part (e.g., submit the form 3 times for 3 different parts).
- If you want duplicates for the same part, you can indicate the quantity within the submission form.
Our employees may follow up with you via email for the following reasons:
- Asking for clarifications about your part (most commonly part dimensions). Please reply to these ASAP so you don’t experience delays with your part.
- Saying your part was unprintable, and will therefore need to be redesigned and resubmitted.
- The most common reasons for this are hollow parts, parts being too large for any printer, and boxy or flat designs that can be easily laser-cut.
When your part has been printed, you will receive an email from cornellrpl@gmail.com. It will be located on the shelf outside the RPL (Upson B22) in a clear bin labeled with your name.
